COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course introduces general knowledge and skills required in installation, configuration, and
management of popular Microsoft operating system(s) for standalone and network client
computers.

1. Installing Windows XP Professional
2. Managing Disks and File Systems
3. Managing Devices and Peripherals
4. Managing the User Interface
5. Managing Users and Groups
6. Managing NTFS Security
7. Managing Shared Folder Security
8. Managing Computer Security
9. Managing Internet Explorer and Its Security Features
COURSE OBJECTIVES
1. Describe the support and security features and the role of Windows XP in a
workgroup or a domain.
2. Identify the ways to upgrade earlier versions of Microsoft Windows to Windows XP
Professional.
3. Manage the installation of Windows XP Professional.
4. Manage disks and file systems.
5. Manage I/O devices and drivers.
6. Manage desktop components, displays, and accessibility options.
7. Manage user accounts and groups to include their properties, rights, and policies.
8. Secure network resources using NTFS file system permissions.
9. Apply control access to shared folders by using permissions.
10. Manage the local security policy by using templates and the audit policy.
11. Manage Internet connections, security settings, and privacy settings.

TEACHING STRATEGIES
The curriculum is designed to promote a variety of teaching strategies that support the outcomes
described in the course objectives and that foster higher cognitive skills. Delivery makes use of

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
1. Attendance and Participation
Regular attendance and participation are essential for satisfactory progress in this course.
2. Completed Assignments
Each student is responsible for completing all assignments on time.
3. Team Participation (if applicable)
Each student is responsible for participating in team assignments and for completing the
delegated task. Each team member must honestly evaluate the contributions by all
members of their respective teams.

Final grades will be calculated from the percentages earned in class as follows:
A 90–100% 4.0
B+ 85–89% 3.5
B 80–84% 3.0
C+ 75–79% 2.5
C 70–74% 2.0
D+ 65–69% 1.5
D 60–64% 1.0
F <60% 0.0
